On June 2, Vivatress proudly partnered with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and NYC Her Future for Girls Press Play, an inspiring event held at the Major Owens Community Center in Brooklyn. Nearly 80 young women came together for a day centered on leadership, confidence, wellness, sports, and self-expression.

Twelve year WNBA veteran, former Chicago Sky assistant coach, entrepreneur, and mentor, Ty Young shared lessons from her journey through professional sports while encouraging attendees to embrace their individuality and pursue their goals with confidence. Today, she continues to support the next generation through youth basketball camps and mentorship programs that empower young athletes both on and off the court.
Aliyah Moore, a talented collegiate basketball forward, brought a perspective rooted in perseverance, discipline, and continuous growth. As both a dedicated student and athlete, she spoke about balancing academics with athletics and encouraged young women to believe in themselves, work hard, and remain committed to their goals.
Both Ty and Aliyah understand that confidence extends beyond performance. For many young girls, braids are more than a hairstyle, they are a form of self-expression and an important part of their identity. Protective styles also support active lifestyles, helping young athletes move through practices, games, workouts, school, and everyday life with one less thing to worry about.
When girls feel confident in how they look and comfortable in their style, they can focus more fully on what matters most: learning, competing, building relationships, and pursuing their dreams. That confidence can carry them from the court into the classroom and into any room they choose to enter.
Created in partnership with NYC Her Future, DYCD, and Power Three K3ys, Girls Press Play expands access to mentorship, leadership development, wellness, and career opportunities for young women across New York City. By connecting participants with accomplished women in sports, media, beauty, and business, the event helps girls build the skills, relationships, and confidence needed to shape their futures.
